Embracing the non-linear path
Nothing about my career followed a straight line — and that’s become my greatest advantage. I have worked in communications for more than 20 years across a variety of industries, including hospitality, manufacturing, agriculture, nonprofits, global agencies, boutique agencies, startups, and international development. I’ve supported leaders in climate tech, conservation, ocean innovation, luxury travel, lifestyle, government, and film.
- Every industry taught me something different.
- Every country shifted my worldview.
- Every move expanded my understanding of people and storytelling.
Why I Started Betancourt Group
After years of working across industries, I realized the work that energized me the most was helping mission-driven founders, scientists, and creatives communicate with clarity and courage. So I built Betancourt Group — a boutique PR and communications firm for brands that want to make a difference. We focus on environmental impact, climate storytelling, innovation, and helping leaders and organizations build visibility that actually matters.
I created this agency because important ideas deserve exceptional storytelling, visibility is a form of impact, climate and innovation founders deserve platforms, and PR should be strategic, human, meaningful, not transactional. I invite you to visit the Betancourt Group website to explore our integrated communications approach. We also offer complimentary 30-minute consultations if you’d like to discuss your goals.
The Storyteller in Me: Journalism, Writing & Blogging
Before PR and marketing, there was journalism. I wrote for my school newspaper, served as entertainment editor in undergrad, and began freelance writing more than 20 years ago. I’ve been published in national magazines, regional lifestyle outlets, and even documented JetBlue’s inaugural Fort Lauderdale–Las Vegas flight.
I started my first blog over 20 years ago on Blogger, long before “content creators” existed. Blogging and journaling have been constants in my life since I was twelve years old. Today, my personal blog is where I share the other sides of me, motherhood, scuba diving, ocean life, travel, food, home projects, and the philosophies that shape how I live and lead.
Military Service and Modern Leadership
Joining the U.S. Air Force Reserves was one of the biggest bold moves of my life, and one of the most transformative. The experience has taught me profound lessons in discipline, resilience, and courage that continue to shape how I lead and communicate.
Learning an extremely technical Air Force job pushed me far outside my comfort zone and proved that I can master complex skills and rise to any challenge. That growth mindset fuels everything I do.
Military service refined my ability to operate under pressure, build trust, and lead with intention. It strengthened my belief that bold choices create lasting impact, a philosophy at the heart of Big Bold Moves and the foundation of how I show up in the world.
